Carnegie Mellon Racing is made up of undergraduate students from a range of disciplines across Carnegie Mellon University. Each year students collaborate to design, manufacture, and race a brand new Formula style electric race car. This year is the ninth in which CMR will compete in the electric division of the FSAE circuit.
Our interdisciplinary team of roughly 150 members is organized into 6 departments: Structures, Energetics, Driverless, Finance, Marketing & Outreach, and Race Operations. It takes lots of collaboration to design, build, manufacture, and compete at the highest level with our race car.
These are the leaders of Carnegie Mellon Racing for the 2025-2026 Season. The executive board directs the team's design, manufacturing, and testing as well as managing CMR as an organization of students.
The Structures team is responsible for the design and manufacturing of each mechanical subsystem in the car. Captains oversee sub-structures and their respective System Leads.
The Energetics team makes the race car come alive by designing nearly every electrical and firmware system. Team members are responsible for the design, fabrication, programming, and testing of each custom PCB hardware on the vehicle.
The Driverless team creates the first autonomous Formula Student racecars in North America through a combination of computer science and robotics. The team integrates their software stack with the vehicle to maximize performance.
The Marketing and Outreach team coordinates CMR's crowdfunding efforts, our racecar's livery creation process, and the upkeep of our website and social media.
The Race Operations team works closely with all of CMR to ensure the success of weekly track testing sessions, annual competitions, and racecar transport logistics.
The Finance Team works with all departments of CMR to manage CMR's budget and all purchases. They also work with corporate sponsors and the CMU administration to ensure the financial stability of the team.
